A young hotelier is singing the praises of the pioneering talent development programme that has fast-tracked her through the ranks at the UK’s leading independent hotel management company, RBH.

The 34-year-old graduated from RBH’s Pyramid Programme – which is open to ambitious Heads of Department across the business’s portfolio of more than 40 hotels – in 2016.

Now in the role of Deputy General Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Luton Airport, the hospitality star is crediting the programme with helping her climb the career ladder.
She said:

I’ve worked in hospitality for almost 12 years and during that time I’ve been based in various departments.

From reception, bar and restaurant to conference and events managerial roles, I’ve built years of on-the-ground experience, but being part of the Pyramid Programme was a great springboard for my career. Being Deputy General Manager of a brand new 250 bedroom airport hotel has been my most rewarding role to date.”

All candidates on the programme are personally mentored and participate in a series of hotel business masterclasses designed to hone their skills. The workshops cover topics such as leadership, quality control, managing risk, people management, profit generation and operational excellence as contributory factors of a profitable business.

Kasia added:

The programme was really challenging at times but so worthwhile. I was completely out of my comfort zone and it was daunting being with such strong fellow candidates especially when presenting, as English is not my first language.

The individual sessions from Divisional Directors and General Managers were among the highlights of the programme for me. It was fantastic to hear about their career journeys and the steps they took from waiters, housekeepers and kitchen porters to become experts in their profession.

My advice to others considering the programme is believe in yourself and just do it. You can achieve it all as long as you want to make it happen.”

Courtyard by Marriott Luton Airport is operated by RBH, the UK’s leading independent hotel management company. The Pyramid Programme has been running for four years with the latest round of candidates due to graduate later this year.
