22nd April 2019

RBH hotels and offices are marking Earth Day today (April 22nd) and highlighting their green credentials.

As the UK’s leading independent hotel management company, the firm is encouraging employees to engage with the annual environmental awareness day.

Across its 45-strong portfolio, hotel teams have a number of activities lined up, including a volunteer community clean-up initiative by DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh City Centre staff and a week-long quiz series to engage guests at ibis Styles Glasgow Centre George Square.

Environmental quizzes will also be hosted at RBH offices, which are moving towards a zero-waste policy.

Stevie Masterson, Group Facilities Manager at RBH, said:

From the big ticket issues such as single use plastic to reducing the likes of water and paper consumption, we have been making good progress and our hotels and teams are engaged in becoming more environmentally aware.

The fact that so many of them are marking Earth Day is testament to that, and we’re proud of all their efforts ¬– not just to mark this awareness day, but all year round. We realise that together we can make a positive difference in our industry.”

Small changes are making big differences at hotels across the portfolio. At The Aberdeen Altens Hotel, plastic straws have been removed in 120,000 drinks over the last six months, while paper consumption has been reduced by half at Crowne Plaza Reading through greater online engagement alone.

Shower miniatures at Hotel Indigo Cardiff have been replaced by refillable dispensers in guest bathrooms and ibis Styles Glasgow Centre George Square has even been recognised for it’s environmentally-friendly ‘Save the Planet – Do Not Disturb’ hangers initiative.

Green partnerships have also been struck up, including with Reading-based cleaning firm Clean Green Living.

Earth Day takes place on Monday 22nd April and aims to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide.
